Rinse, and repeat

Gonna wash that man right outta my hair,
Gonna wash that man right outta my hair,
Gonna wash that man right outta my hair,
And send him on his way…

Pardon the randomness, but I heard that snippet the other day and it stuck in my head. I believe it’s Doris Day, probably from one of those ’50s flicks – if anyone knows, answer on the back of a crisp tenner to the usual address… It just struck me as funny, is all: “Been dumped? Try ‘MAN-BE-GONE’, the shampoo to get you over it and back on your feet…” And I wonder would it work with just one treatment, or would the usual (normally quite unnecessary) admonition to “Rinse and repeat if necessary” be emblazoned on the label?

Look at me – I’m in consumer hell! 😀 I guess that’s a side effect of working for a company that’s snapping at the heels of advertising agencies and looking for a piece of the pie…

Work’s busying up again, which is good news indeed. And to think I was going to forfeit the deposit on my Jaguar! (yeah, right!) But what’s more important is that there are musical stirrings on the horizon, which is quite a relief. All work and no play, etc… I’m recording a vocal track with mates Simon & Eric (of Velcro Fly fame(?!)), then soon I’ll be jamming with mates Mono & Matt, with a definite old-school funk vibe. And of course, there’s the pop-funk-rock thing with Edd, which will happen one of these months. I’ll let you know…

A couple of reviews have now appeared on Happenins UK, including one courtesy of top mate Dew, at the pointy end of the burgeoning Irish music scene. Don’t laugh – I’ll be dragging Simon & Eric to Ireland in March to record a couple of tracks with him! You never know – I might have to ask someone else to review one of MY gigs before very long. How cool would that be???

My musical endeavours, limited as they are, extend to performing at my Dad’s retirement party in March – or so I’m led to believe. Cue mild panic, as I try to rustle up acceptable tunes from my heinously limited repertoire: “And this one I know you’ll love – it’s Enter Sandman, by Metallica…” 🙂

And the other end of my rather random hobby collection will be taking form *very* soon now, on Hidden Depths – a website devoted to my growing interest in the fields of hypnotherapy and NLP. More on that as it develops, but it’ll be starting out as a place to download self-hypnosis audio tracks, so if you’re feeling in need of a bit of tweaking, this is the place to come…

I keep coming back to the opening paragraph, and just wondering if the same concept could be applied to various ablutive activities: gonna scrub that girl right offa my back, gonna brush that boy right outta my teeth, gonna wipe that b—- right offa my a—… Hmmm, maybe not. But hey! Post your suggestions on the message board, if you like, he he… 😀

Oooooh, I’m soooo BAD sometimes!

Musical mayhem

Saturday night saw Fastfood’s last gig for a few months, and as usual, it was superb. Now frontman Ian is off to the jungles of Belize to take part in a conservation project for the next three months, so we’ll have to wait till he comes back before we see any more Fastfood action…

I made sure to purchase one of their demo CDs – a snip at £4, and no doubt sure to increase in value as I got Ian to autograph it for me! When they’re famous, I’ll make a fortune on eBay, ha haaa… The gig itself went well, apart from the sound being a bit ‘boomy’ and muddy, but that didn’t stop me enjoying it. The band who were on after them (whose name escapes me) were good at what they did, but it was a bit derivative of The Who and some of the more commercial punk efforts, so I wasn’t hugely bothered.

In the news this week – bugger all. Keeping nose to grindstone and trying to make a quid or two, as usual, and most other pursuits have to wait till the weekend. I’m just kicking back and waiting with breathless anticipation for my week in Ireland at the end of March – I so need a holiday, but in the absence of one a trip to Ireland will do just as well… 😉

Happy birthdays this week to mates Ignacio Benitez and Stuart Sands – old gits. Although as I’m pretty much the oldest out of all my mates, I really should shut up – glass houses, stones, and all that malarky…

OK – enough misery for one week – I’m off out on Saturday night to see a band called Sixtoe in the Barfly in Camden on Saturday night, and I’m told they are very special indeed. Come along, we can quaff beers and exchange notes about the band.

And then on Monday night I’ll be going along to support the rampantly brilliant Gin Panic at the Hope & Anchor on Monday night – an unmissable treat, and highly recommended. You’ve got other plans? Shame on you – get your arse down to Islington!!!

Keep an eye on Happenins UK for reviews of the gigs – and you can post remarks on my witless observations, while you’re at it. Still not tempted? Should I try bribery??? Nah, sod it…
